This is actually a compilation of two Poe short-story adaptations by George Romero and Dario Argento. The first of the two is Romero with “The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar,” which was a little goofy but fun.
The consensus of online reviews is that this movie is a pile of shit & all I can say is that those reviewers must not have watched a quarter of the shit we’ve watched for this podcast if they think that this is the worst movie ever.
This movie adds a new state of titties to the GITM cinematic universe “titties bit off by dungeon eunuchs” & that part is really fucked up. This is one of the rare horror movies where the subplot is more compelling than the primary weird element.
Stef (witchxpudding), L (@nocturnical), Mel (@heda_mel), & Al (@maybmockingbird) continue Ghost in the Magazine's #31daysofhorror challenge with seven new movies that range from "I'm mad about watching this" to "I'm not mad about watching this." There's no real uniting theme this week, just some absolutely terrible picks & some that were alright.
A father-son mortuary team cut into the wrong witch. This well-paced & plotted tale may get a little tangled in the details but it's a solid movie that doesn't lean into puritanical interpretations of witchcraft for a cheap scare. The cat didn't deserve that though, he was an innocent, cranky baby.
This movie is wildly creative & there is real vision to it but it just does not come together & ultimately we spent a huge chunk of the segment arguing over if we would theoretically fuck ourselves up willingly & become a weird monster for some good dick.
Movies have different purposes. Some aspire to tell you a great story, to make you think about your own life & purpose on earth parallel to it, to delve into the great questions of our existence — some are just terribly acted vehicles for titties, not just a single pair but lots & lots of titties.
This is a movie, a mood, an atmosphere — it's definitely confusing but in an artistic way that leaves you digging for symbols & meaning among intense imagery & genuinely unnerving moments.
