Edgar Allan Poe, mesmerism, animal cruelty
This is actually a compilation of two Poe short-story adaptations by George Romero and Dario Argento. The first of the two is Romero with “The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar,” which was a little goofy but fun. The second, Argento’s “The Black Cat” was very Argento – wielding the soundtrack like a cudgel, the dated horniness, the lush visual aesthetic that folds into the storytelling perspective itself. The violence in it is unflinching & inflicted upon the vulnerable & that is personally what kills it for me. I do appreciate the neighbor coming to complain about the noise. Same bro. Same.
