Urban legend, found footage, insufferable lead
In theory this should be a good movie, it has all the right components — a compelling urban legend, a feasible found-footage scenario, and passable character motivations. But the characters themselves are inconsistent & fail to really compel the watcher to believe in their stakes. The story, while interesting enough, stops just short of making sense which is not necessarily a deal-breaker for an urban legend, but the plot of the story does not make up for the shortcoming & it just falls flat. The nail in the coffin is the insufferable main character Gavin York that leans into misery whenever he possibly can & tests the viewers patience until they ultimately can’t give a soft fuck about anything or anyone in the movie.
